The owners manual calls out for every 2.5 hrs. or every race, oil and filter. I personally shoot for every other race, usually around 5 hrs. It does get costly, especially using oil that costs about $30 a gallon,on 3 bikes, but I have never had a oil related failure that I can remember in any of my 8, 4-stroke machines.
I use Bel-Ray Thumper oil in my motor side, Bel-Ray 80wt. gear oil in my tranny, and a good qualityPAPER oil filter, Hi-Filtro, Filtron, or Honda OEM, preferably.

Between 10 and 12 hours, closer to 12 on both 250 and 450.

Susco64, are you sure that the manual says that? I'm not looking at 1 but I swore it was 12 hours or x amount of races.

I could be wrong, it happened once before!

Your right Charlie, I just rechecked 15 hrs or 6 races, seems to long though to me. I was looking at the air filter service at 2.5 hrs. I still plan on changing mine every 2 race weekends that = 8 motos, 4 moto practices, and 2 practice days. Totals around 5-6 hrs ride time.

Yeah, but most people ride more than 2 hours each time they're out. I do at least. I wouldn't base it off amount of times you've rode the bike, but by the hours you put on the bike during those rides.
I know that you believe you understand what you think I said, but I'm not sure you realize that what you heard is not what I meant.

Very true, good point....i myself only ride moto so i go by how many times to the track not how many times i rode on that given day as i usually put in 5 to 6 good motos each time out to the track, but lots of ppl trail ride and u add hours alot faster that way and the only real way to know how many hours u have on it is if u have an hour meter on ur bike

I really need to invest in an hour meter cause i don't always remember exactly how long i rode vs. how much i b.s.'ed!

I change mine after every ride, trans. and motor, sometimes I change the filter every other ride but only if I don't have one handy.

I would say, change your oil and transmission oil as often as you can!
And make sure you replace your oil filter too!
